PEX Tools

Different Manufacturing Methods of PEX Tubing PEX tubing is used in innumerable domestic and commercial applications primarily due to its exceptional strength, flexibility and durability. Methods of Manufacturing There are certain fundamental methods of manufacturing this type of tubing that are widely used. Some of these principal methods are as follows:

Irradiation Method

This method of manufacturing PEX tubing is commonly referred as the PEX-C. This manufacturing method initiates the process of preparation of the straight polyethylene wherein the tubing takes a specific form while undergoing the extrusion process. In the irradiation method, the process of cross linking of the molecules to form bridges takes place only after the manufacturer has made the tubing undergo the electron beam cannon. The use of electron beam cannon is extremely crucial in this method as it stimulates the molecules to form cross links which is the most essential characteristic of any PEX tubing. At times, the process of cross linking of the molecules produces inadequate results which may even cause the fragility of the outer layers of PEX tubing. However, under well-controlled processes, such instances can effectively be avoided.

Engel Method

This method of manufacturing PEX tubing is commonly referred as PEX-A. This method is named after Engel, who introduced the invention of the PEX to the world. In the Engel method, the PEX is able to create cross links in its melted form which is primarily achieved by making use of peroxide and passing the liquid mixture through increased temperatures and pressures. After the completion of the process, the manufacturer is able to get a crystal clear form of PEX. The Engel method is extremely beneficial that essentially provides an even and consistent distribution of the cross links that give the tubing its true character. This is one of the most tedious methods where the manufacturing of the tubing can take a significant of time which is why this form of tubing costs much more as compared to other types. However, such expenditure is completely worth the quality this method offers which is why Engel manufacturing process of PEX tubing is considered far more superior than other processes.

Silane Method

This method is popularly called as PEX-B which offers quite different results as compared to the other two methods. One of the greatest discrepancies is reflected through the nature of its cross linking which essentially presents a pattern between the molecules of carbon. Oxygen and silicon molecules are also used to stimulate the process of cross linking process. This manufacturing method of PEX tubing may offer less chemical stability as compared to the other methods.

PEX tubing is therefore manufactured using array of methods which provide strong chemical resistance and protection against corrosion thereby enhancing its usability.
